Measure the route as well as the gap

Record the lowest clearance under the bed frame, then measure each uninterrupted floor area between support legs. Include the extra height of a lid, clips, handles or wheels. Next measure how far a box can travel into the room before it meets a wall, wardrobe or bedside table. A container that fits beneath the mattress may still be impossible to withdraw fully. Test the proposed footprint with paper or an empty cardboard shape while keeping all bed supports untouched. Do not remove a central leg or alter the frame to make storage fit. Choose an opening you can reach

If two people share the bed, agree which side holds each category so that retrieving one item does not mean pulling every container onto the floor.

Buy enough for one accessible layer

Do not count theoretical capacity in positions that you cannot reach. Check whether lids are included and whether the container remains rigid enough to handle with your intended contents. Keep a simple contents list only for boxes whose labels cannot describe them clearly.
