List the applications tied to real tasks
Read the module setup notes and record the full application name, required release and first assignment that uses it. Include browser services and remote environments as well as installed programs. Mark each item as compulsory, recommended or optional using the course's actual wording. Do not turn a suggested tool into an unnecessary purchase.
Add the expected output format and any required add-ons. A base application can be available while a particular toolbox, plugin or export feature is missing. Keep the list short and task-based. It should tell you what must work for the course, not reproduce an entire software catalogue with no indication of relevance.
Identify the authorised access route
For each application, note whether access comes through the university, the provider's education plan or a managed campus service. Follow the published route and use the correct account. If the sign-in process asks for payment, check the entitlement with IT before assuming a separate licence is necessary.
Complete any eligibility verification in time for the first practical task. Keep support references and renewal information without storing private documents in the ordinary inventory. Do not use another student's credentials or an unofficial activation method. The useful setup is one you are entitled to use and can maintain throughout the module.
Check the required device environment
Compare the named release with the provider's supported system requirements and any departmental additions. Record whether it runs locally or through an approved remote service. If your current device cannot support it, ask about campus, loan or alternative arrangements. Do not buy a new computer before learning what the course actually provides.
Check any restrictions on installing software on a borrowed or managed device. A useful loan laptop may support general study while disallowing additional packages. Plan the location of specialist work accordingly. Keep compatibility questions precise by supplying the exact device model, operating system and application rather than a broad description such as an old laptop.
Test the required feature
Open the application and complete a small representative task from the course. Save, reopen and export the result in the expected way. Record success for the specific workflow, not merely for launching the program. A licence or plugin problem may only appear when you use the feature the assessment needs.
If something fails, capture the exact error and ask the appropriate university or provider support team. Keep the sample free of restricted data when seeking general technical help. Resolve one issue at a time and update the inventory with the working method. This creates a useful reference when the same setup is needed on another authorised machine.
Review only when something changes
Revisit the list before a new module, major project, device replacement or access-renewal date. Remove obsolete assumptions and confirm the next required task. Avoid continually changing working software just because a newer release is advertised, unless the course or security guidance requires the change.
